- Each Quarter we will view on this main page our feature of the quarter. This quarter our feature is Backup!

Your current backup possible faults:

If you are not backing up your computer files or if you are backing up with one of the following methods, you could be in trouble.

·         Tape Back-up (fails 50% of time)

·         DVD or CD (Heat failure, prone to scratches)

·         Floppy (Heat failure, not enough space)

·         Additional hard drive (Same location disadvantage)

All of the above are flawed backup systems. They are all prone to failure, aren’t reliable and if you have a flood, fire or other disaster you stand a good chance that you will loose all your data.

Our backup Solution Benefits:

  • All data is protected by state-of-the-art encryption
  • No one can access your data without your password . . . not even us
  • Completely automated off-site, out-of-state  protection
  • Quickly recover critical files lost due to human error, viruses, hardware, disaster, or theft
  • Backup is performed each night 365 days a year (multiple daily backups are optional)
  • Cost is as low as $20.00 a month

Backup or restore your files 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year

Why backup:

I’m sure anyone whom has ever used a computer has experienced that heart sinking feeling when they realize that their important data/file is gone. A good backup system will insure that your data is always protected. If you use a computer the question isn’t should I backup but how do I perform a backup.

An independent study shows that computer data loss costs company’s over $12 billion a year and that data loss occurs as a result of the following:

·         Hardware Failure: 42%

·         Human Error: 30%

·         Software Corruption: 13%

·         PC Viruses: 7%

·         Hardware error: 3%

Every day individuals, businesses, and organizations lose their precious files due to a drive failure, inadvertent deletion, disgruntled employees or other unwanted action or event. The result is a great deal of stress, anxiety, and in the case of businesses, lost revenue.

Your computer has many moving parts and as such will wear over time. When this occurs, if you don’t have a good backup your data will be loss forever.

Please note that a GOOD backup is one that is done without human intervention and is stored off-site.

Where to Backup:

You need to store a copy of all your important files in a different location to where your computer is situated. It's not a great deal of use having the copy of your files on your external hard drive which is constantly plugged into your computer. A thief won't leave your additional drive for you to recover your lost files and a fire or flood won't distinguish between your computer and your external drive. At the very least, keep your backup copy in an entirely different building.  Please note that transporting a backup home every day via car is not a good way to keep a back-up. If your backup contains privileged client data (credit card numbers, medical records, SSN, …) high tech thieves are on the lookout for this and stealing your backup is more valuable to them then acquiring your access to your bank account.

Keeping your back-up on a secured net server somewhere offers the most benefit. An encrypted back-up could run in the background daily and sent across the net to a server located in a completely different state. This backup would be protected where only the individual with the password could un-encrypt it and as such read the data. This backup would be automatic and need no manual intervention.

What Data Should be Backed Up?

If you use your computer for business purposes you will also need to backup all the information from your financial software, inventory control, customer databases, and other specialist business files. In addition you should backup your my document folder where your  Word documents, spreadsheets, databases, emails and etc reside.

Security

Trust and privacy are key strategic elements.  The strategy used here requires a complex mixture of encryption technologies, operational procedures and administrative policy.  We have implemented a broad spectrum of security features designed to give you the confidence to entrust us with important and private information.

·        Data encryption and confidentiality was designed into our proprietary software from inception.  We not only encrypt your data securely on your PC prior to transport, but also maintain your data in encrypted form throughout its storage lifecycles.  Only your account password can decrypt your data

·        Redundant Data Storage is provided for your data.  Our data center is geographically separated different from the source (your office).  As such your data is automatically protected from local geographical disasters.  Additionally your data the server your data is stored is equipped with 24x7 monitoring, redundant air filtration systems, water-free fire suppression systems, UPS power protection and diesel generator backup and a backup of your backup of your backup is kept.

How it works

1. On a schedule that you define, our client remote backup software "activates", determining which files and folders need to be backed up, and what type of backup (full or incremental) is scheduled for that time.

2. For a full backup, our remote backup software compresses each selected file to a fraction of the original size. The compressed data is then encrypted using an encryption key that only you know. For an incremental backup, the remote backup software scans each selected file for any changes made to the file since the last backup. If no changes were made, no data is sent. If changes were made to an individual file, our software scans the file to determine which actual portion of the file changed. Those individual changes are extracted and then encrypted. It continues this process for each file that was selected to be backed up.

3. After your files are compressed and encrypted, our remote backup software activates your network connection and sends your encrypted data offsite to our secure storage facility.

4. After your backup is sent to our server, the backup software returns to an idle state, awaiting the next scheduled backup time.

An encrypted copy of your critical data is now safely offsite in our secure storage facility. If your building were to suffer a disaster, if your computer crashed, or if your computer was stolen, replacing your equipment and restoring your files from our remote backup server could literally save your
